The Wickerfish Gallery is housed in an old textile mill called Farfield, which overlooks the River Clough and is nestled at the foot of the gentle Howgill Fells in the Yorkshire Dales. Farfield Mill is a centre for weaving and traditional and contemporary arts and crafts and is situated one mile away from the old market town of Sedbergh.
The gallery has a permanent display of artwork by artists Ruth Clayton and Stuart Gray, whose studio is situated behind the gallery. The gallery was established in 2016, producing unique artwork.
Ruth and Stuart work very differently but complement one another by having a similar interest and love of the world around them. They have a healthy rivalry when it comes to exhibiting and selling their work and, in their own words, say:
“Stuart is so talented, and I’m always delighted when he sells a piece of work as long as he doesn’t sell more that me!”
“I think that Ruth is a brilliant artist but don’t tell her I told you so”
The gallery also showcases a variety of merchandise including cards, art kits and small sculptural pieces.
