The Wickerfish Gallery is housed in an old textile mill called Farfield, which overlooks the River Clough and is nestled at the foot of the gentle Howgill Fells in the Yorkshire Dales. Farfield Mill is a centre for weaving and traditional and contemporary arts and crafts and is situated one mile away from the old market town of Sedbergh.
Ruth Clayton and Stuart Gray established the art gallery in 2016 producing unique artwork in their own individual styles. Ruth likes to look at nature in all its forms whilst Stuart captures and develops images of the open spaces he loves to visit on his frequent travels in one of his numerous sketchbooks.
They work very differently but compliment one another by having a similar interest and love of the world around them. They have a healthy rivalry when it comes to exhibiting and selling their work and in their own words say:
“Stuart is so talented, and I’m always delighted when he sells a piece of work as long as he doesn’t sell more that me!”
“I think that Ruth is a brilliant artist but don’t tell her I told you so”
