A Creative Nature

Ruth qualified as a Graphic Designer, specialising in illustration, at Leeds Metropolitan University in 1986. She then gained a teaching qualification at Manchester University.

Since then she has spent time as an Art teacher working in high schools, Garth Prison and Runshaw, Skelmersdale and Bootle Tertiary Colleges. Ruth ran the successful Art studio, ‘Wickerfish’ at Cedar Farm Galleries, Mawdesley, Lancashire for 12 years where she taught adults to paint and draw as well as displaying her own paintings to sell. She now shares a studio with her partner Stuart Gray at Farfield Mill in Sedbergh, Cumbria behind the gallery where they work and sell their paintings.

Even though Ruth paints in a variety of media, she specialises in ‘watercolour’ and exhibits nationally.

Where To Draw The Line

Stuart Gray has been an illustrator and graphic designer since leaving college in the early seventies. He has worked in several studios before becoming a lecturer at Wigan School for the Arts in 1994.

He retired from being a lecturer a few years ago and started to work with his partner Ruth Kidd in the successful art studio at Cedar Farm Galleries in Mawdesley, Lancashire teaching adults the basics of drawing and painting.

They closed the business in January 2016 and relocated to Sedbergh in Cumbria. He now works at Farfield mill in Sedbergh with Ruth where they share a studio behind the Wickerfish Gallery. Stuart works with different media but his specialism is acrylic. He enjoys painting landscapes and still life and he has filled a fair number of sketchbooks over the years!
