This painting was inspired by my late father, the brushes were his and as I painted them it felt as if they seemed to represent him through various stages of his life. Two new brushes slim and ready for a busy life, the black brush having seen a fair amount of work and the white haired brush seeming to give a feeling of tiredness after a lifetime of toil and effort.
I’ve tried to give the painting a ‘looseness’ to give it a certain reality without being too photographic. The red marble has become a visual signature for this series of pictures and I think people assume it to have a much deeper meaning but I’m sorry to say its just a marble.
